About academous.com, the universe and everything

This is a blog about a start up idea. Academous was born in June 2014 somewhere in Manchester, UK. The idea is to build an online platform that will help Research staff in Higher Education Institutions across the OECD countries find participants for their experiments and online surveys. Academous is a fusion of 2 words;*

1) academia:
noun ac·a·de·mia \ˌa-kə-ˈdē-mē-ə\
: the life, community, or world of teachers, schools, and education

2) anonymous
adjective anon·y·mous \ə-ˈnä-nə-məs\
: not named or identified
: made or done by someone unknown
: not distinct or noticeable : lacking interesting or unusual characteristics

* from Myriam-Webster dictionary

Nope. There is no connection with the famous Anonymous group. For those who have not worked in academia, when researchers publish scientific papers or articles, the collected data have to be presented and published in an anonymous way in order to protect people’s ID. Academous is based on the principle of protecting anonymity and providing partial anonymity to its users through its services. Our goal is to make the world a little bit fairer and better for everyone -more about the personal viewpoint and our corporate ethics in a post to come. So the aim of the academous website when this will be launched, is not to make its owner(s) rich – far from it actually-, but instead… a big chunk of the profit will go towards “feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace”, as Bill Hicks once said. This has anyway already started a few years ago.

Did we say that we like movies, series, books and stand up comedy? Yes we do! You will find a lot of quotes from books, movies and series in the posts to follow. “Thank you very much! You ‘ve been fantastic and I hope you enjoyed it”.
